In America in the beginning, the performing arts accomplishments of young Maureen FitzSimons (who we know as Maureen O'Hara) would definitely place her into the child prodigy category. This was a very natural quality for a woman of Irish descent, that was surrounded during her early years by talented relatives and parents. Maureen was welcomed into the sanctity of family on the 17th of August 1920 in Ranelagh (a suburb within Dublin), Ireland. Marguerita FitzSimons' mom, Lilburn, was a contralto. Charles FitzSimons was a successful businessman in Dublin who also owned a piece of the Irish Shamrock Rovers soccer team. Maureen FitzSimons was 2nd in the household of six FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara rounded off the gorgeous family. Maureen enjoyed playing athletic games as a child and excelled in sports. The combination of this natural interest and her talent to perform was impressive. As a result, she won the majority of the Feis Awards for her dramatic and acting performances in her country of birth. When she was 14she was admitted into the Abbey Theater, where her dream was to pursue operatic singing as well as classical theater.
