Tina Tina Amanda AmandaMaureen liked playing athletic games as a child and was a pro in her sports. Her talent for performing was the perfect match for her interest in sport. As evidenced by winning pretty much every Feis awards for drama and theatrical performing her country offered. In the year 14 she was admitted to the world-renowned Abbey Theater and pursued her dreams of performing in classical theatre and operatic vocals. The course of her life was modified, however, when Charles Laughton, after seeing an audition for a film of Maureen and was mesmerized by her stunning eyes. Laughton changed her name to Maureen FitzSimons, from Maureen FitzSimons, to "Maureen O'Hara", which was a shorter version of her last name. It was shortly before Laughton cast her in Jamaica Inn. Maureen was under contract with Laughton for her upcoming movie in America with RKO Pictures (The Hunchback of Notre Notre Dame 1939). Maureen was able to buy her contract from Laughton after the film was an enormous success. At 19, Maureen had already appeared in two motion picture majors alongside Laughton.
